If we suggest a place that which visited by people from each and every religion, ethnic group and cast in Sri Lanka, first of all, we can name it as Sri Paadaya (Adam’s Peak). It is also recognized as ‘Samanala Kanda’ (Butterfly Mountain). Buddhists believe during the visit of Lord Buddha, he has marked his footprint on the top of the mountain.
Hindu people believe that the footprint belongs to Lord Shiva, and also Islam and Catholic devotees believe the same as the footprint of Adam. This peak is located near the Rathnapura and Nuwaraeliya districts and height is 7360 feet. Due to its uncommon and specified shape can be identified easily.
Generally, pilgrims are allowed to hike the adam’s peak for only six months in a year. Heavy rains and unpredictable weather restrict the other months. The other reason is to let animals live peacefully in the peak wildness and to let growing the flora and fauna. From December to June would be the pilgrimage season of Adam’s peak.
